Log: Day 5
Challenge for the day: stay on the diet while on the road
Road trips generally mean snacking my way across the open road … and I have favorites for just that purpose. So, how do I do that on a food and calorie controlled diet? Not easily! I made a five-hour drive to Wyoming this afternoon and had to make some food choices to get me here. I guess the most important lesson learned today is that I have to stay committed. Stay centered on the desire to succeed. But as I mentioned in a previous post, old habits die hard.
I headed out of the city with my deli lunch – easy to grab and eat. There’s no easy way to eat a salad in the car. The stop for fuel was a little tougher. In my other life, this would be an opportunity to pick up red vines and trail mix – my staples on the road. Because I also had to use the restroom, I had to amble past the rows of inviting (and fattening) snacks. I managed to get in and out without a purchase, but I sure wanted to do otherwise. Which brings me to my point, at least for the time being – I have to acknowledge that I want other things … I can’t have them … and that’s okay. It’s time to enjoy the foods I can have.
For dinner, I’ll be eating out with friends. This part is a little easier. Fortunately, I can always have a protein, vegetable, and salad. Tomorrow will be the greater challenge … lots of snacks and a working lunch. We’ll see how I do!
Post Script: I realize that I’m a little diet obsessed right now. And I don’t really want to apologize for it, because I think that’s what I need to get a good start. As I get into a rhythm, it will hopefully get easier!
