The Seven Day Count Down

Have I mentioned that I really don’t like packing?! Never have. I can’t decide what to take, I pack too much, take too many shoes, and generally am annoyed by the process. And this time, I seriously have to think about other things since I can’t just cruise by a Walmart if I forget something.

Viking offers a number of FAQ’s – one of which is packing.

So, what to bring?

Comfortable, casual clothing (no formal night on Viking, yay). Apparently something a little dressier for the Captain’s Dinner. – CHECK

Comfortable walking shoes a must – and we know my dilemma there! Fourteen tries – no shoes. Agh. – NOT QUITE A CHECK

Umbrella (I have a Monet print umbrella – woohoo). – CHECK

Lightweight jacket/sweater. – Yup, CHECK

Sunglasses, sun hat or visor – CHECK (sunglasses, two pair), CHECK, to visors (no hats on my head!)

Warmer coat as needed for cooler weather – CHECK. I’m taking a jacket that can go over my sweatshirt – serves both needs, light jacket, warmer combination. Go me.

On to the Carry-on
Copies of key travel documents (passport information page, airline tickets, credit card numbers and insurance information) – I’ll also give a copy to Carol, just in case.

I’ll also pack meds, my phone, my iPad, Kindle, and what little jewelry I’m taking.

Other Stuff to Pack
I’m taking an electric converter/adapter for North American appliances (220V). I have a nice little travel set – a Christmas gift from my sister. I’ll also throw in some hand sanitizer, wet wipes, a little sewing kit, and and some zip-locks (multiple sizes). I have several other fun travel items my niece gave me for my birthday. Everything is headed to France with me, thanks family!

My sister also gave me some really great “packing cubes” – those thin zippered containers to roll and pack your clothes. There are various sizes, so everything has it’s place. Today I am beginning to move my pre-packing clothes piles to their packing cubes.

Like any hotel, the ship has hair dryers; and our stateroom amenities include shower gel, shampoo, lotion, shower cap, and a vanity kit. So no worries about packing those things.

Just in case any of you who know me well are wondering … yes, I have a paper list of what I’m packing, yes, I’ve moved things in and out of the piles every day. Yes, I’m nervous.

My plan for the week:

Monday – pool, finish up any laundry

Tuesday – acupuncture, Verizon store (international calling), review packing list

Wednesday – pool, finish packing (yikes), copy paperwork

Thursday – acupuncture, relax

Friday – maybe pool, pack carry

Saturday – AGHHHHHHHHH – add last items to carry on and head to the airport.
