Les Andelys Day 6 Already?

Time is flying by!

We cruised more of the beautiful Seine river today. I Love, Love, Love, the Normandy region. These great half-timber houses, and chateaus and castles looking down on us. This little city, Les Andelys, is exactly what you’d picture a French town to be. The imposing castle remains of Richard the Lionheart’s Chateau Gailard overlook the city.  These are private residences – notice the contrasting styles!

And the castle ….

I took a great little video, but it won’t upload. 🙄

Carol and I decided to explore on our own in Petit Andely. We stumbled onto a wonderful old church … it breathed history. Built in the 12th century, it stands almost entirely intact after the French Revolution, the floods of 1910 (I think that’s the right year) and a tornado in the 70s that brought down the spire.

The organ was added in the 1600s and was one of Durufle’s favorite places to play.

On down the river to Mantel-la-Jolie. This town was the center of music instrument production (woodwinds and brass) during the time of Louis XIV. We did more  wandering and gawking. I was trying to get a picture of the barge for rent, which comes with the smaller boat. Who rents a barge??

I don’t know what this is … just thought it was pretty!
