Romping through Rouen

Okay … I don’t romp. But we “rivered” and we rambled …

What a fun historical city. But first about the ships. We were parked three deep, side by side. In order to disembark, you had to traverse from boat-to-boat, topside, and then down the stairs of the boat closest to dock. With the change in tide, the gangway was really steep when we left and almost flat on the return. Interesting!

Back to Rouen. City of Joan of Arc and the beautiful cathedral Monet painted so often.

We loved the carvings (and the gargoyles!)

The beautiful stained glass is original 14th century. When parts of the windows were bombed during the war, they did not replace them because the colors could not be matched.

The city streets are charming and busy!

With wonderful markets

Ooh, and I almost forgot the clock tower. Stunning, and very famous in this area.

We headed home tired and ready for one more fun meal – a captain’s dinner with the foods of Normandy.

Have I mentioned they feed us WAY too well?

Tomorrow is the beaches of Normandy, the American side.
