Monet All Day

We’re having Wi-Fi challenges – and I have great photos I can’t load – so Giverney pics may be in tomorrow’s post.

A fabulous day in Giverny!

After a night of cruising and going through the lochs, we arrived in Vernon. My Dad would have loved the engineering of these lochs. It’s a marvel that so much water can be displaced so quickly. After breakfast we boarded our bus for the days excursion. Breakfasts,  by the way, are buffet style and way too much food. But yummy.

On to Giverny … and the home of Claude Monet! Anyone who knows me very well will know that I have always LOVED Monet, so I was really looking forward to this. And I wasn’t disappointed. Monet called himself a gardener and then a painter – and the gardens are incredible. Everything is in bloom and so beautiful. I know my pictures don’t do it justice, but it gives you an idea. We had a guide – French of course – who was a bit muddled, but interesting. She gave a bit of flare to all the facts about Monet, his home, his garden, and the art.

His home is equally amazing, but also a little unusual. The color palate is a reflection of his style and yellow predominates. After struggling through the crowds at the house we meandered to a self-service cafe, La Capuchine. We had a drink and snack and just did some people watching. We continued on our walk through the town then headed back to the buses.

We had lunch with the folks we met at breakfast yesterday … Desiree and Michael … from Highlands Ranch, Colorado. This is our second Colorado encounter. And Desiree is a hoot.

Anyway, on to the afternoon. We painted! Yes, we took an impressionist painting class. The teacher was an artist from Vernon. Amidst lots of laughter and discovery … when I can load photos, I’ll share our masterpieces!

Next up, a lecture on Impressionism. Since Carol is totally well versed in the subject and I’m a mostly knowledgeable novice … I got sleepy. The guest lecturer, also an artist, worked too hard ar being funny and spoke to us a bit like we’d never heard of art. We were too polite to leave. 🙄

next post … Rouen and hopefully photos!
