Day 241 – How am I doing?

My plan to start into the new year with vigor and enthusiasm had nothing what-so-ever to do with getting a blazing cold. Zicam and Coricidin at the ready. A painful night of coughing (woke up 23 times according to FitBit). I have a headache and my eyes hurt. That’s it for the whining …

There’s a lot of research that indicates a greater challenge to losing weight in a winter climate than in summer months (Oh great). Apparently as temperatures dip into the singe digits, we do less outdoors, and we shift from leafy greens to heavy soups, more carbs, and holiday treats. I know it’s been hard for me to stay on track. Trying to get fit in the winter just takes more motivation, I guess.

I’m not going back to the pool until this cold is over – so what’s the plan instead? Well, stick to the steps – even if I don’t feel like it! Stick to the fitness bands exercises. And stick to the diet. That’s a lot of sticking …

I also have to return to weighing every Monday. I’ve avoided it over the holidays. As I mentioned in earlier posts, I just struggled with all of it. But I’m renewed. The “experts” says to have your bathroom scale in an easy-to-use location. And I know I waxed on about how many times to weight, etc. but most of those same experts agree that weighing once a week is best. In fact, a couple of studies showed that people who weighted themselves once a week, declined in body fat, even when not in a weight-loss program. That’s a positive!

I was reading an article about winter weight loss and laughed just a little – they suggested taking up running, snow shoeing, or hiking in the snow. Nope, not so much.
