Day 163 – Off the Rails

All I have to say is, I’m sorry … Sorry for evading my blog, sorry for going completely off the rails for a couple of days, and sorry that I’m not going to wallow in the guilt … or maybe I don’t have to be sorry for that part!

Anyway, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Isn’t that how the saying goes? Indeed. Sometimes life things just get in the way of being a dieting gal. And sometimes the dieting gal gets in the way of the diet. But I’m not deterred. Every day is a new day …  I have about a million song lyrics in my head right now, by the way, so everything I say reminds me of a song. I’ll have to stick with the motivational and inspiring ones!

I have a friend who is also working on serious weight loss. She has previously had lap-band surgery and also went to a weight loss “camp.” She went from 390 to 300 after the surgery, but then re-gained about 85 lbs over three years. Then the camp and 100 down. But it’s expensive, so she’s back home to take off the rest. The bad news is she has gained back some weight since returning home. We are close to the same age, she has some similar physical issues, and she is finding it terribly difficult to lose on her own. We commiserate. And what I take away from our sharing is that no-one finds this easy. Some people have incredible success with bizarre diets and then gain the weight back. Or just can’t stay motivated and give up. I guess I felt a bit of that the last couple of days, so I visited my Viking River Cruise page. That steps up my motivation!

Giving up is very appealing because food is comforting and often tempting – tastes and smells that you miss – when you diet. Some foods, by the mere mention of eliminating them from your diet, call out to be binged. It’s really about getting to the end result but not suffering to do it. I mean that sincerely. Oh I know, there’s a little suffering involved in giving up your favorite junk food or snack. But it’s not REAL suffering. And I always have to wrap my brain around the true nature of a healthy life-plan, and how to get there. Just keep trying …
