Day 58 – Vagabond

It’s day one of the DC trip … and I’m exhausted already. I coudn’t fall asleep last night. Then our collegiate summit attendee, who arrived in DC late last night couldn’t get registered at the hotel … so he called me at 10:30. Back to bed and no relaxing going on. Fitbit says 3 hours 11 minutes of sleep last night. Oy.

So off to the airport I headed this morning. Drank my lemon juice on the way, parked my car, and promptly left my apple slices in the car. Ah the joys of a failing memory. Not a good start to my food control plan on day 1 of travel. I did have breakfast on the plane – a “protein plate,” which consisted of smoked salmon, almonds, brie, lettuce, and a fruit bowl. A little weird. The fellow next to me had the breakfast calzone – a completely dry calzone of eggs and ham – no sauce, just a tub of yogurt. Also weird.

Flying always renews my embarrassment of weight. The poor person having to push the wheelchair, and once again experiencing a person who “traded” me for someone smaller. I just try not to internalize it and know that I’m doing the best I can, and that’s all I can really ask of myself. So I swallow the hurt feelings and press on.

On with the food discussion … I arrived at my hotel around 2:30. Dealt with the collegiate room issue, checked in, and settled into my own room. I snacked on some fruit/nuts and tried to catch up on some email. At 5:00, I headed to the club lounge for some appetizers (really, my dinner), which included lamb meatballs (very odd tasting), apple/pear dumplings (only had 2), and lots of fresh vegetables. I haven’t figured out my calories for today, but it was all-in-all an unusual foodie day.

After five days in a row of surpassing my walking goal, I surprisingly have not met it today. A little ambling may be called for before bed. Or I may just collapse and start anew tomorrow.

Many of the meals are provided at the conference. Here’s my plan … eat whatever is closest to what I’m supposed to be eating, and nothing else. I’ll let you know …

  1. Give yourself the option of making the best choices available and moving on. Remember I’m the one that had to eat a chocolate Costco muffin last week ? If the sizes are smaller and the steps are greater you are winning !
I’m applauding your steps since I am stuck at 2,500 even if I spend part of the day chasing grandchildren ! One more week and I can go back in the pool Sigh.
