Day 42 (and 41) – Take a Breath

Diet Log: Day 42

My “stick with it-ness” seems to flag later in the day. Because of our schedule yesterday, we ate out twice. I had the insides of a chicken wrap for lunch, along with a bit of fruit. Well done, me. And dinner? Chinese. That’s not an altogether bad thing. Opted for beef and snap peas. Tried to eat a very small amount of rice. But Chinese food is one of my favorites … so no portion control! Quite simply, I ate too much. Then, on a whim, I had frozen yogurt in the evening. It was a pleasant surprise that I didn’t surpass my calorie total for the day – although it’s kind of a ‘guesstimate’ with Chinese food. Anyway, I’m pretty sure it will be a negative day overall. Too much salty food, probably too much fat, and maybe too many calories. But it’s over.

Moving on …

I read that taking a breath after every bite helps with digestion by slowing your eating. Eating slowly is healthy! Why can’t I get that? And as I’ve said before, it’s hard for me to do. Just a lifetime of eating too quickly. So I’m going to try harder. The instructions are pretty simply: complete each bite, swallow, than take a full, deep breath. I’ll try not to take the noisy kind with sighing exhale, but this seems like an interesting idea and pretty easy to implement.

I’m not doing at all well with the 30-minute meal rule. I’m pretty much done in 15. Maybe this breathing deal will slow me down. Thirty minutes is a long time to have your food in front of you, by the way. And hot stuff does not stay hot. I’ve been eating my salad at the end of the meal. Truthfully, I like it better that way. But it also allows me to eat the hot food when it’s hot and take more time to finish the meal.

I’m at the end of week 6 (weigh-in tomorrow). Really hoping for good news. It’s funny how needy I am to see those numbers go down. Well, maybe not funny, exactly, I feel a little pathetic and anxious. I’ve also been weighing mid-week, because I have no ability to delay gratification! Here’s hoping …
