Day 31 – Feeling Good

Log: Day 31

I had a great day at the pool this morning! Felt good in the water, walked up the ramp without too much difficulty, and walked pretty much like a normal person into the locker room. Woo hoo! I also had a very nice visit with a woman in the pool. I’d met her when I first went to the rec center several years ago, but hadn’t seen her since. I say this in the kindest terms … this woman is heart-breakingly obese. Her pain on entering the pool was apparent on her face and the limitations of her steps. Her movement was seriously compromised by her girth. We talked a lot about my workout and how I got to this point. I told her about my experience with Gary Zappa, a PTA at Premier Bone and Joint in Laramie – explaining my 90-minute water workout and why I do what I do. She is slated to do regular PT later in the week, so I did tell her that at least for me, that was not nearly as helpful as the aqua therapy. I felt deeply sorry for her, her pain level, and limited mobility. But her condition also really put my progress in perspective. Today, I felt like I did most days when I left the Laramie pool – pain level down, and grateful that I got some exercise. I hope this is the sign of an upswing.

Second happy news of the day (this is actually out of order) – I wore a shirt I haven’t been able to wear in quite some time, and it wasn’t even snug. AND I had actual space between my tummy and the steering wheel. This is a gauge of success that I particularly enjoy. When I first got the Kia, I rubbed the steering wheel. It was a combination of irritating, annoying, and embarrassing – I used to always have to check this in car rentals. So, good news for me!

 Nap time …
